Hello!!!
I survived the dentist today. The gap in my tooth was easily filled within half an hour and my pocket is still full. Aah, I love my dentist.
I was stressing over nothing! Thankfully! I got into her rooms today and she greeted me with, “you plonker! What did you do now?” Nice to see you too Dr J! Lol. But she’s awesome...
I actually spend most of my time talking to my old colleagues, catching up on what’s been happening in their lives. It’s weird to think that so much has changed in these past few months and yet everything seems to still be the same. It’s odd, but I take comfort in that fact. It’s almost as if it’s a “safety net” for our friendships. It doesn’t matter how long we have been apart you can always count on the fact that Carol will still be Carol and Michelle still Michelle. That all will be as it was when I left. But at the same time I feel sad. I walk in and everything’s the same, like no one has grown, moved on, done something with themselves. Their still stuck in an environment that most of them dislike. I can’t blame them as patients can get really fussy with you but I would think that would be more of a motivation to get out. Apparently not. Look I’m not saying that they haven’t tried. I know for a fact that they all have. But it’s just so sad to see them still stuck in that same spot where I left them. It’s almost like I had just missed a day of work and not 5 months.
I really wish them all the best in their future, whatever it might be. They are all wonderful people that lead very different lives from one another but yet find some similarity in themselves to stick together. To many people they are just a face behind a desk and a voice behind a call but you don’t have to look too deeply to find that their unique and genuine as you yourself.
And because of that I will never look at a cashier, pharmacist, cleaner, security guard, and receptionist the same again. I will always remember that even though they are there to serve me, I will never forget that they are human with families, bills to pay and lives that go way beyond their job description, just like me.
I hope the next time you visit your doctor, or dentist or supermarket you remember this and you get to see the person that’s serving yon in a different light than before.
xxx
